One of the most popular game consoles of all time is its parent, the PlayStation 4, which sold over 110 million units as of May 2020. The only home game console to exceed those figures is the iconic PlayStation 2. Blame it on Sony’s pandemic and the drawn-out stretches of radio silence sometimes punctuated by highly generated video presentations that said nothing about the new system’s ins and outs and mostly focused on trailers with just a smattering of true in-engine gameplay. Fortunately, with the PS5, multiplayer gaming will once again be at the forefront, and since the system is so recent, there are already a lot of games to check out whether via online or local multiplayer. You may wonder what kind of multiplayer games Sony’s latest system has to bring before picking up a new PS5.

The Sony PlayStation 5, offering more strong specs and a space-age design, is a huge change forward from its predecessor. The Xbox Series X and Series S, and to a limited extent, the Nintendo Switch, are its main rivals. The latter home-handheld-hybrid console was released in 2017 and while a great system in its own right, owing to its special form factor and considerably lowered specs, it is not necessarily a direct competitor.
