Qualcomm Reveals LTE Modem with 1Gbps Download Speed

The Qualcomm Snapdragon X20 LTE chipset is the 7th product to support LTE networks. According to Qualcomm, the modem can support download speeds up to 1.2 Gbps. This chip can achieve this speed by using carrier aggregation. It allows a device with the modem to access as many as 12 unique streams of data. Each stream will have the speeds of up to 100 Mbps. However, upload speed os this chip is not as fast as its download speed. This device’s upload speed is up to 150 Mbps. Moreover, Qualcomm has just sampling this chipset to phone makers. Most probably, this chipset will put inside new handsets until mid 2018. However, current LTE networks will not be able to handle 1.2Gbps speeds in the real world. Recently, Qualcomm has announced two chips, one is IPQ8074 system-on-chip (SoC) for broadcasters (routers and access points) and other one is QCA6290 SoC for receivers (Wi-Fi devices). Most surprisingly, both these chips will also support WiFi 802.11ax standard.
