A study has found that the more the time spend on platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and Pintrest, the more likely young people are to feel disconnected from the rest of society. Those who spend over two hours daily on social media are more prone to social isolation.

The US research revealed that the more the users visit social media sites the more the negative effect on them. Lead scientist Professor Brian Primack, from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, said: The research team asked 1,787 adults (19-32) about their use of 11 popular social media platforms. Every individual was valuated for self-perceived social isolation using a standard technique called the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System. That offers scores for a vast range of measurements. The more time a person spends online, the less time is left for face-to-face interactions. Furthermore, certain aspects of social media may stimulate feelings of exclusion.
